Even though the shell is tough and durable, it did not take away from the comfortable feel of the bag. The Rab Neutrino Endurance 600 is packed with 600 grams of 800 fill down making this bag comfortable and warm and made me feel like I was surrounded by pillows. The inside zippered pocket is suitable for small items such as a headlamp or very small camera, but a bigger pocket would have made it more functional. The anti-snag zipper webbing tape performed pretty well, but would have been even better if the tape was stiffer. This shape contributed to warmth and functionality and little dead space. The Neutrino Endurance 600 uses a tapered shape as opposed to the traditional mummy shape, as well as an angled foot box.

Rab also uses a fluorocarbon free hydrophobic down in this bag to prevent any allergy issues.

Since this is the same outer shell fabric that Rab uses on their jackets, it is well suited to handle the elements, making this bag perfect for alpine climbing, winter backpacking and bivy ledges. The Pertex Endurance outer fabric was very durable and handled condensation, weather and dirt well. As someone who is a bit of a colder sleeper, I found this bag comfortable into the mid 20’s. This bag has an extremely generous draft tube and neck baffle that helped eliminate drafts and cold spots. I found this to be key to the bag’s warmth while also keeping weight down to just over two pounds. The Rab Neutrino Endurance 600 is equipped with 800 down fill and has a Pertex Quantum lining that is light enough to allow the down to loft well and hold the maximum amount of heat inside the bag. This is likely because, as one of the warmer bags in the category, it uses 600 grams of down and a robust shell. Star rating: 4.The Rab Neutrino Endurance 600 compressed with slightly more than average effort and not as compactly as some of the other bags in this category. The only drawbacks are the cost – though some comparable bags cost even more – and that it’s only available in one length, suitable according to Rab, for people up to 185cms tall. The Neutrino 800 is an ideal winter backpacking bag, especially if you’re a cold sleeper (I suspect I’d be too warm in it in above zero temperatures). The down is traceable under the European Down & Feather Association Codex, which means it’s either the by-product of geese slaughtered for food or is harvested during moulting and not from live-plucked birds. Whilst the shell of the bag is made in China it’s hand-filled in Rab’s factory in Derbyshire (one of the reasons for the high price). The down is also treated with a Nikwax product to make it hydrophobic so it will resist a fair amount of moisture, as I found when the frost round the hood melted, though it’s not waterproof. The very high fill power down is held in chambers with trapezoidal baffles – internal walls angled towards each other. It has a thin Pertex Quantum shell that allows the down to loft fully and all the usual features – shaped foot, hood, neck baffle, thick baffle behind the zip. This really is a very warm bag for the weight. I’d been waiting for some really cold weather to try it in and now that it had arrived I was impressed. The sleeping bag that was keeping me so warm was Rab’s Neutrino 800, a lightweight bag with phenomenal loft. In fact I felt very comfortable and snug and soon feel back to sleep, only waking again at dawn, when the temperature was a milder -6☌. The rest of me was pretty warm too, clad only in thin base layers. I was lying with my head in the open door of the tent. I stuck a hand out of the sleeping bag, displacing frost from round the hood, and grabbed my extremely cold watch. The moonlight shining on my face woke me.
